Travelling with High Blood Pressure

People with high blood pressure are considered to be more at risk of deep vein thrombosis DVT when flying.

The majority of passengers that fly end up sitting in one position for long periods of time. This can cause the blood to thicken increasing the risk of deep vein thrombosis. To minimise the risk of DVT wear flight socks to improve circulation and try to walk up and down the aisles of the plane every half hour or so. Be sure to stretch and move your legs and feet whilst seated. Your in-flight magazines and literature are likely to contain information on seated exercises and ways to reduce the risk of DVTs.
